At the trail, you will see the Original Inca trail that was leading from Machu Picchu to Cusco, a well preserved trail that is not used by any tourist anymore, because they hike only the final part. Finally the trail ends in the sacred valley, where you can see a huge change of ecosystem and microclimates.

As part of the extension of this program, instead of returning to cusco city, you can catch train from Ollanta to Machu Picchu, then return to cusco on the 6th day. Itinerary

DAY 1. Cusco – Soraypampa – Ichupata.

This amazing programs, begins with a pick up from from your hotel at early morning (05:00 hrs), then drive to soraypampa which is the trail head, the trail goes by a valley and reaches the base of the moraine, a flat ground named salkantaypampa, here we can stop and have lunch.

After lunch we start climbing up by a zigzagging path, while the group gains altitude you can start observing nicer landscape, then arrive to a straw grassy area named ichupata where we set our tents and spend the night over 4:300 masl.

Nutritious breakfast will be given and  after breakfast we will continue with the hike, this day we will climb up the steepest section to the summit Inca Chiriasca, this is located at 5.100 meters above sea level, you will observe the view of the majestic Salkantay mountain, then we will continue by a gentle path, still uphill to T’oqto Q’asa.

Toqto Q’asa is the highest summit, that show magnificent view of the mountains and valley, then we can have lunch, and walking for 2.5 hours more we will camp at 4.400 meters above sea level,

We will enjoy the morning view, it is like a secret spot that is hidden from wind, then we can continue our hike to wider spots, then descend to down, at the lower point of today’s trail, we will have lunch, then we will climb up to another pass, then get in to a lower point named Occoruro, here we are going to camp in the middle of no where, surrounded by highland grass.

Some of our groups, were so lucky at this Ancascocha trek, they saw condors soaring at the mountains, it is land of Andean cara cara eagles as well, they are wide and black color winged, You spend the night aver 4.200 meters above sea level.

In the morning of this day we can pass by a nice reddish sandy mountain called Accoqasa, to get this point we will walk for about 3 hours.  From the top with help of binocular we will appreciate the famous Inca trail which leads to Machu picchu, we will see as well  glacier mountains, then we will descend to a place where the lonely man and his family leaves, they farm cows and sheep, we will stop on his property for lunch.

After lunch we are going to summit the wayanay pass which is at 4.550 meters above sea level, a nice pass that give us opportunity to see another beautiful scenic view, the  we will descend and finally appreciate the view of the Ancascocha lake, dark blue water from glacier mountain, that holds typical birds of this regions, such Huallatas, ducks and many others which migrates from different places.

This part of the path, give us as well the opportunity to walk on an Inca trail that, and after 3 hours from lunch we will reach a camp ground that is used only by our company, close to a red mountain, the camp I at 4100m.a.s.l.

After the last night in the highlands, we will breakfast then start descending to a canyon, we will pass the settlement, then walk the trail used by the villagers to get in to the sacred valley, it is a trail that follows the river and it is a warm valley, the entire walk will be about 4.5 hours, we will reach Camicancha village in the sacred valley (faraway village from Ollanta).

At the end of walking of this day, you will lunch then, our transport picks you up and drive you to Cusco city arriving at about 5pm.

Optionally, instead coming back to cusco, you can extend your trip to machu picchu; So, you can take train from Ollanta to aguas calientes town and spend the night, on the next day, visit to machu picchu and return to cusco).
