Salkantay Express Tour, is a tour to Machu Picchu by the Salkantay Trail, designed for people who are limited on time, it only takes 4 days and 3 nights including visit to machu picchu, and returning to Cusco, a program that will show you the best off the Peruvian landscapes, a trail that leads by the Inca trail and follows the traditional path, then what is the difference from the 5 days traditional trek? Itinerary
Day 01: Cusco – Soraypampa – Soyrococha.
This express tour starts with pickup from your hotel in cusco city at about 05:00 hrs, then depart towards northwest, along the way we will pass by some towns, and get in to a deep canyon, that is the place where locals grow avocados, and export them.
You will pass by Mollepata town, then continue and drive to soraypampa, from here you can do a hike to the humantay lake, after some time for the pictures, return to the bottom of the valley and lunch.
After re-charging energy, continue hiking towards north and after 2 hours reach soraypampa and after a break, continue and hike the steepest section of the entire trail, as you approach to Salkantay mountain the view in impressive, then arrive to camp and spend the night at 4.200 meters above sea level.
Day 02: Soyrococha – Collpapampa.
Early wake up to enjoy the majestic view of the mountain, then breakfast, after breakfast depart towards the summit, This is the nicest view of the trail, it will take about 40 minutes, once at the summit you can have an amazing view of mountains at distance, then descend and see the old inca trail at some parts, then after 2 hours reach a wider spot where you can stop and have snacks.
From here, we continue to wayracpampa and stop for lunch, after lunch get in to the cloud forest section and see how the landscape changes from straw grass to a deep vegetation, after 3.5 hours reach the camp site at collpapampa, which is a view plateau at union of 3 canyons. The camp site is at 2960 meters above sea level, a nice chill temperature at nigh will give you a pleasant rest.
Day 03: Collpapampa – Hidroelectrica – Machu Picchu.
Tasty breakfast will provide you extra energy and after this, the group will take a local transport that will take the group by the rest of cloud forest and reach the high jungle, along the road you will coffee plantations, bananas, avocados, passion fruits.
After 2.2 hours of slow drive, the group will arrive to hydroelectricity power plant area, then walk for 3 hours by a gentle path, on backwards to the river, along the trail you can see a dense vegetation and see machu picchu from the back side, then reach the machu picchu town, where our guide will bring you to your hotel and you can spend the night.
Day 04: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco.
At early morning the guide will meet you at your hotel then take you to Machu Picchu by shuttle bus, once arriving to the archaeological city, you can climb up to the view point, enjoy the view then get the history background of machu picchu and after that walk by all the most important sectors in 2.5 hours of tour.
After ending the guided tour, you can exit from the city and catch bus to aguas calientes town and after lunch take train ollantaytambo; here our driver will meet you and take you back to Cusco city.
